We are on the final countdown from open beta to open preview, the primary difference is that we have locked down the version one feature set based upon your feedback! Here’s a quick list of what you’ve got our team working on (in no particular order) in the final countdown:
Custom alert settings
Improved story grouping
Improving the help and onboarding process
Allowing you to control the sort order of the risers/fallers based on Price and Pulse
Remember if you spot something we need to sort or have an idea for the site let us know. You can pop it directly into our feedback form or tweet us directly at @tradingwebsite. If we run with the feature we will even credit you on the platform.
One of the key features we’ve been looking to add for a while now is a nice tutorial through the system to help get you up and running. Well now we're pleased to announce the launch of our new tour.
Loved by many, misunderstood by others, the first page that loads when you visit Trading.co.uk (fondly known as the “dashboard”) has been under scruitiny since we first released.
Finally, after much deliberation, we think we have worked out what was wrong with it and hopefully you’ll love it as much as we do. Now by default the dashboard will show the companies on your watch lists:
Use the handy menu in the top right to filter the companies that are shown:
Sometimes it’s the little things in life that help you keep things in order and today’s update is no exception, now all the indexes are in alphabetical order.
Bonus feature: if you were a fan of the table view for all indexes, we’ve added a nifty little button for you on the indexes menu:
Alerts have been one of our most popular features since they were released but it was always tricky to see what had happened to the company so we’re pleased to announce the addition of the alert component which lists the alerts that have been sent for a company.
We think you’re going to love the feature we released today - a combined news feed for your watch lists. Now you can get a single list of all the headlines and stories for the companies within any of your watchlists. Simply click the count of headlines or stories over the top of your watchlist.
We’re very aware that keeping abreast of the latest breaking headlines is critical to your daily process which is why we have condensed down the news feed for you fitting in 4 or 5 times the number of headlines that we did before!
No longer will you have to wonder whether the company is already in your watch lists or not, now the little icons at the top of the blades will let you know!
No longer will you get the market closed placeholder when looking at companies, instead we’ll plot the out of hours price data we have for you. As before, the grey areas on the graph represent the out of hours prices.
Knowing the 10 related companies just wasn’t enough for some of you so we’ve increased this to 50 so you can find related companies to invest in.
Sometimes you’re not sure who someone is working for at the moment. To make it easier for you, we’ve enriched our search to allow you to search by Key Executive names, some products and services and loads more so go give it a go!
People didn’t realise that the pulse was constantly updating and changing throughout the day as chatter is happening so now we’ve made it more like a trading system price update and flash Green/Red depending of whether it’s gone Up or Down.
Having the entire headline’s url on the headline list view is great if you’re a robot but not so great if you want to know which site it was from so we’ve shortened it for you. If you want to see the entire url, over over the domain and all will be revealed. Click it to go straight to the article.
Stories are great but sometimes you need to know the headlines that are breaking as they’re breaking so today we’re pleased to bring you the headline view for companies. This will list all the headlines before they get combined into stories.
It used to be a faff to go to a company's details from the heatmaps but now when you click on them it will open up the company details blade for you.
Some of you are staying on the system all day long and didn’t realise the Risers and Fallers list of companies wasn’t updating automatically. Well now it does!
Having watched a number of users using Trading.co.uk we noticed that one of the main things people do when opening an index was click the list of companies straight away so now we’ve changed the main menu so it opens the list of companies up straight away to make it even faster for you to get to the information that matters to you.
Everyone likes to compare stats and now you can compare the various company’s data on the charts so you can start to get an idea of how the company's compare
We’ve re-ordered the opportunity index as you’ve been telling us what’s most important, now the “Current Pulse” heat map is the first chart you get to see followed by the stories, count of companies (as it’s always changing) and then all the other helpful charts. If you don’t like the new layout, you can always customise it and change it to your preference.
Keeping your finger on the pulse is tricky at the best of times and we wanted a quick and simple way to see where to focus throughout the day so we built the “Opportunity Index” which the list of companies you should pay attention to.
We found it so useful internally we decided that we should share it with all you lovely users as well so here it is!
Check out the Opportunity Index now by clicking here or find it yourself in the Index menu:
Today we noticed that the shift (the coloured bit between the lines) was disappearing from the Sentiment Over Time charts when an update came through in certain instances well it will shift off no longer!
It’s a minor change but we’ve made the hot topics size based on their novelty score instead of volume which has made it a little easier to see what the unusual words are, you can see the before and after below:
Did you struggle with finding companies when you first joined Trading.co.uk? Well you weren’t alone so we’ve split out the old “Browse” menu into two new menus:
We’ve fixed up all sorts of little niggles around the site ranging from stylistic changes to interaction issues hopefully making Trading.co.uk even better than ever for you. Don’t forget to let us know if you spot something we’ve missed.
We’ve made a minor tweak to the heatmap of companies to make it both easier to read and give you more insight into the underlying data. As some of the names were too long we’ve resorted to the symbols so most squares should show a name.
Bonus Feature! Now if you hover over the company’s symbol it will show you the Current Pulse, Max Pulse and Volume.
Why is it Mega you ask? Well here is some context - we've added 2 new in-memory servers making things even more zippy, added 100’s of terabytes of extra storage for all our new data points, over 500 bug fixes, 1000’s of lines of new code, tons of new features big and small, hours of late nights and early hours , and that doesn't even scrape the surface! So without further ado we present to you, based upon your feedback, the multi-update-update. Enjoy!
Did you try and customise a blade and get an error that looked like this?
If you did, good news! We’ve sorted it so now you can change the layout of the blade to suit your needs any time day or night.
We had a few reports that people had been having issues going “Back” and “Forwards” on their browsers, we’ve given the Delorean a kick and our flux capacitors are operating as they should. 2015 here we come.
Sometimes it’s the little things that help the most, today we have released a small improvement that adds tool tips..
We’ve been listening to you and from your feedback we have been busy going through our algorithms, validating the data and squishing lots of little bugs along the way.
Visiting the site from America? You may have noticed that some of your charts were offset by a few hours (but all still in sync like any good boy band). We’ve fixed the issue so that now all graphs are showing the same times wherever you’re visiting us from in the world.
We heard a few of you weren’t following us on Twitter as you didn’t know where we are, wonder no longer, follow @tradingwebsite on Twitter now or click the shiny new icon:
Sorry, some of our users have been unable to get to the story view over the past day or so, we’ve got to the bottom of the error so you can now see the stories in all their glory again!
It turns out that when we rolled out our new sentiment charts the other day we didn’t let the negative vibes flow and they were getting chopped off. We’ve fixed the charts so now you get all the negative sentiment you can handle.
Thought you were seeing things? Turns out you weren’t. Every now and again we found that the mini volumetric and sentiment charts didn’t start at the same point in time. We’ve fixed this up so now they align beautifully unlike before...
Sometimes things go wrong and we just left you hanging with a blade open which wasn’t cool. We’ve had a play and have added a close cross so there’ll be no more of this:
Did you notice that Index alerts were missing an icon? No? We did and now it’s not!
Love lists? Love keeping all your favourite companies to hand? So do we, what we didn’t love however was the fact that we couldn’t change the name of the watchlist once it was created. We’ve just pushed a fix live that now allows you to once again name your favourite companies whether it’s FANG, Companies to Watch or just Stuff.
Were you one of the unlucky ones to hit an error on our system? Boring wasn’t it! Well now we’re a little more inviting and helpful rather than leaving you on a somewhat blank screen.
Hopefully you’ll never see it but if you do, let us know!
Due to a minor change we made today we were rounding sentiment values of less than 1 down to 0 meaning where there was little to no difference in the sentiment we didn’t show anything:
We’ve noticed a couple of the charts since we rolled them out have been getting cut off at the top of the chart, we’ve put in a fix that should correctly scale the charts now.
Did you feel a little lost when you first came to the site? We’ve just redesigned the homepage of the site to hopefully feel a little less lost and also introduce you to the system. We’ve got more in the works but this has to be better right?
We’ve added pulse to the table of companies for you so now you have no reason not to have your finger on the pulse of the entire Index at any time day or night!
When you’re logged out we’ve cut down on a couple of the clicks to log into the important area, all you mouse lovers can breathe a sigh of relief.
Our brainy data scientists have come up with a super new way to graph sentiment that gives you all the information you need from one chart. If you’ve not already seen it in action Click Here to see the LON100.
Here’s a quick overview of its key benefits:
For when you want a snapshot view of an Equity, add an Index or Company to your dashboard and you’ll get a top level view of the key stats including current price, pulse and sentiment.
Did it bug you that the hot topics weren’t in alphabetical order? It certainly wound up the pedants here so we’ve ordered them alphabetically for you - and have even ignored the $, @ and # so it’s easier to read!
We don’t like to leave you hanging when you first come to the site so we’ve improved the homepage to include a demo link to show you around the system.
You asked for it and we’ve now overhauled the charting feature on your dashboard! Now, instead of one chart/graph containing price, social volume count, social pulse score and sentiment – we have separated them into three individual charts. Featured together on one blade, this allows users to easily see and compare the different charts, with any confusion.
We’re finally opening the site up to a wider audience so tell your colleagues, friends or family about trading.co.uk as it’s open for all to use.
The data is flowing through the system faster than a speeding bullet. We’ve made even more changes to the way we’re processing data so it gets to you even faster than before.
We’ve added even more companies, their products and search terms to give you even more insight.
We’ve been working on getting the Toronto stock exchange. We’ve got 60 of Canada’s greatest equities onto the system for your approval.
Everything has just got smaller, tighter and more focused, we’ve got more companies and data onto the screen for you!
Log in using your favorite social platform whether it’s Twitter, Facebook or Google, logging couldn’t be simpler. Already got an account? No problem, you can activate your social login here.
Digital Contact have just added another two devs to the trading.co.uk team so we should get our changes out even faster now.
Pin the companies that matter most to you to your home screen so they’re no further than a click away. You can pin any level of detail you want to your dashboard.
We’ve just completed a major review of the site in all browsers and many different platforms (Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and Windows Phone) and have resolved a number of issues. Hopefully we’ve squashed the main bugs but let us know if you spot anything else.
Now when you’re logged in, we won’t bug you to accept our T&Cs every time you come to the site!
We’ve just enabled the live updates so things should update on the screen as you watch them, now you can keep the page open all day long and watch the data update before you.
Watchlists are finally here, you can save all the companies that are important to you for quick access. Learn more about your watchlists here.
If you’ve customized the layout of your data to fit your needs we’ll now remember that for you.
You can now register on the site and we’ll remember you the next time you come back.
We wanted the site and it’s data to have a little more pzazz so have been working on some of the animations making everything just that little bit nicer to work with.
We’ve just changed our advertising platform so adverts are loaded faster and are less intrusive.
Based on your feedback and some deep inner thinking, we’re going to overhaul the current design making it far more interactive and useful, it’s a big change that will take us a while but watch this space for exciting changes ahead!
